gran torino.

ok, another movie review. saw gran torino the other night. it was sooo good. clint eastwood is an original gangsta. i love him. i havent seen much of his work, like his older stuff, besides million dollar baby. but now im a big fan of his.

without giving away too much, in short, it's about a grouchy old Korean war vet whose wife just passed away. he spits racial slurs throughout the movie, and he is so funny when he says 'em. the slurs about asians are especially funny, such as "gook," and "slope" (for the way asian eyes slope down), and he brings up the whole dog-eating thing more than once. he aint close to his two sons, and his only companion is his dog. and he has a dope vintage car in his garage--a gran torino.

he gets new neighbors--an Hmong family. The youngest of the family is a timid quiet boy named Tao, who he calls "Toad," They form a bond, and Clint looks after him as if he were his own son. there is a stupid violent Hmong gang that is present throughout the movie. The gang constantly tries to recruit Toad, and when he doesn't wanna roll with 'em, the gang retaliates violently. And Clint, being a gangsta who stacked up bodies as sandbags during his war days, does what he can to protect the family.

the Hmong family opens his eyes, and eventually brings him peace. he goes from a grumpy old man to a cheerful, thoughtful, and generous person, who goes to the extreme to protect his new family.

check out the trailer, then go out and see it. bring some tissue.
